When working through the foot it is important to work through the entire foot and to avoid sickling or pronating the foot. When the foot is pointed correctly, the big toe is more in line with the ankle of the foot.
It is also important when correctly pointing the foot to avoid gripping the floor with the toes on your supporting leg. Your supporting leg toes should be flat to the floor when standing in a position, working through a tendu or other leg gesture, and when en demi-pointe.
